Using Metaphor and Humor to Save the World - Jeonju North Jeolla meeting, Nov '24
Wesley Martin presented on how to make climate change real to middle school students. He based his lesson on using a little humor and a lot of metaphors. We brainstormed ways to find substitutes for climate change. One way is to see climate change as a moving bus that is going off a cliff. How can we save ourselves? After a number of suggestions, we looked at the benefits of using metaphors and humor to teach about crisis related themes. One way was to scaffold new vocabulary and to shelter from negative emotions. When the wolf is at the door it is better to laugh aloud than to despair....

In accordance with the KOTESOL Bylaws, Article X, we are hereby notifying members of a proposed amendment to the KOTESOL Bylaws, which will be voted on at the 2024 Annual Business Meeting (ABM) on November 1. All current KOTESOL members whose memberships are valid at least through November 1 are eligible to vote.
The attached proposal for an amendment to the KOTESOL Bylaws has been properly presented to the national president and endorsed by at least five (5) members in good standing (Bylaws Article X).

Call for Proposed Amendments to Constitution & Bylaws, 2024
KOTESOL's Annual Business Meeting (ABM) will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, starting at 7 p.m., in accordance with the KOTESOL Constitution & Bylaws. (Find information about attending the ABM here.)
During the ABM, any proposed amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws will be voted upon by all members in attendance. Please submit any proposed amendments (along with five endorsements from other current members) to the KOTESOL president by September 30. These will be distributed online and electronically (via email) at least 30 days prior to the ABM.

At the KOTESOL National Council meeting on June 23, the Council approved a proposal to create a new Incheon Chapter, bringing KOTESOL to a total of ten active chapters nationwide. Members can now select Incheon as their home chapter in their profiles (My account --> Edit --> Chapter --> Save), and it's an option when people join or renew. The new chapter, helmed by acting president Victor Reeser, has plans to host events starting in August.
