The Gwangju-Jeonnam Chapter of Korea TESOL serves EFL teachers in the Gwangju and Jeonnam areas with monthly ELT presentations and workshops for the professional development of its membership as well as to promote scholarship and disseminate information on ELT. The Gwangju-Jeonnam Chapter members have formed a Gwangju group of the KOTESOL Reflective Practice SIG, which meets monthly in Gwangju. We are
"Teachers Helping Teachers."
The Chapter holds an annual conference in March, often in cooperation with one or more of KOTESOL's special interest groups (SIGs) and featuring presentations from outstanding KOTESOL members from across the nation.
The Chapter often holds an Outreach Workshop in the spring, featuring a half dozen outstanding EFL presentations. The most recent one was held at Mokpo University in Muan in 2016.
Additional activities include an end-of-summer (outdoor) dinner and an end-od-year dinner, both great times for networking and socializing. The Chapter also participates in the Gwangju International Center's GIC Day each autumn with a display, introducing the community to KOTESOL and the activities of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Chapter. The GIC produces a monthly magazine, Gwangju News, in which the Chapter maintains a column on English language teaching.
The Gwangju-Jeonnam Chapter has an international membership of about 70 members, many of whom are Korean, American, Canadian, and Filipino. Attendance at our monthly meetings usually is between 25 and 35 attendees. The language of the meetings is English, and non-members are free to attend.
