The Well-Being Special Interest Group

Welcome!

The Well-Being Special Interest Group (SIG) is dedicated to supporting the physical, mental, and emotional health of English language teaching (ELT) professionals in Korea. Teaching is deeply rewarding, but it can also be demanding, and stress and burnout are common challenges in our field. Our SIG exists to offer practical, accessible ways for educators to care for themselves while building meaningful connections with others in the ELT community.

Aligned with KOTESOL’s mission, the Well-Being SIG promotes professional sustainability by encouraging healthy, balanced educators who are better equipped to engage with their learners and their work. We focus on wellness practices that are not only beneficial on a personal level, but that can also be thoughtfully adapted for use in ELT classrooms to enhance concentration, embodiment, and educator–student connection through kinaesthetic and mindful activities.

We aim to create a safe, inclusive, and budget-conscious space for educators who are interested in well-being practices but may not have found opportunities to explore them in English or within a professional community. Whether you are completely new to wellness practices or already have an established routine, you are warmly welcome.

What We Do

The Well-Being SIG hosts a range of online and in-person activities designed to nurture both individual well-being and community connection. We have already hosted:

  • Singing bowl baths
  • Meditation sessions
  • Beach swimming and mindfulness events
  • Talks by authors and artists
  • Community wellness meet-ups
  • Online yoga classes 
  • Park walkabouts and mindful walks
  • Hikes
  • Alternative restaurant and mindful eating experiences
  • Workshops and presentations on incorporating well-being practices into ELT classrooms

Free Online Yoga

Join our weekly online yoga classes on Zoom every Friday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. These classes are open to all levels. These sessions are a consistent space to pause, move, breathe, and reconnect at the end of the working week.

Community & Participation

At the heart of the Well-Being SIG is a belief in community care. We value kindness, curiosity, and respect, and we encourage members to participate at their own pace and comfort level. All activities are optional, adaptable, and designed with accessibility in mind.

Everyone is welcome. Participation in any activity is always at the practitioner’s own discretion, and attendees are encouraged to listen to their bodies and personal boundaries.
