Partnership - General Partnership Associate

Korea TESOL welcomes book distributors and publishers and others involved in the ELT community to join our organization as General Partnership Associates (GPAs), the standard "institutional membership" classification for partnership.

The book industriy has seen considerable stresses the past few years. Some say there are two responses to challenge - "fight or flight." On behalf of the teachers and learners of English in Korea, we hope our publishers fight!

KOTESOL offers publishers & distributors the opportunity to market intelligently, to the teachers who are leading the...

Partnership - Teacher Education Associates

Korea TESOL has redefined a classic partnership type: the Teacher Education Associate (TEA, formerly known as TTA).

TEAs are post-secondary schools that educate future and in-service teachers of English. Most often they offer a Master's degree in a related field (TESOL, Linguistics, Education, English) or a Certificate/Diploma course in TESOL/TEFL, some programs offer short-term instruction on narrower topics.

The field of teacher education is growing increasingly competitive, with more schools offering short-term programs, summer-only courses, and distance-mode instruction (...

Jeju Chapter - March 2015 Workshop Review

We all know that the internet is a major resource for information (and other things) on just about anything one can think of.  With my Facebook feed continually updating with news and entertainment from around the world, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle of all that’s out there.  This is also true for the resources available to teachers, new and old. With so many options to get and keep students engaged on learning targets, new teachers might have a hard time figuring out which tools are most effective in the EFL classroom.  Well, presenter Lindsay Herron made that much easier on us...

Daegu-Gyeongbuk May 2015 Monthly Workshop

May 2, 2015 - 3:30pm to 5:30pm

Our monthly workshop for May will feature a presentation on Multiple Intelligences by Ted Mishler. Dr. Howard Gardner, a professor of education at Harvard University, developed the theory of multiple intelligences in 1983, and many books and articles have been written on how, and what, to teach in the M.I. classroom. Unfortunately, there is not that much literature available on the ESL classroom, but there are many exercises and activities that can be done in the ESL classroom, based on each of the intelligences in Dr. Gardner’s theory, and in this presentation Ted will show where the ESL...

Neuro-ELT and Neuro-myths:What Brain Research Shows Us About Learning, Thinking, Memory, and Teaching

Leonie Overbeek

Abstract

Understanding what exactly happens in the brain during the learning process, how memories are formed and how we forget things should be a boon to teachers and students alike.

After all, if we understand what is happening, we can make it better and more efficient. The problem is that over the years, as people have interpreted the findings of neurological research, a number of myths have arisen that are still being perpetuated in teacher...

Wanted: Lively, passionate discussions about topics that YOU care about.

Why? To give you a chance to discuss an important issue with other participants. Think "Point-Counterpoint" without the politics or rancor.

What is a Panel Discussion? A panel should consist of a moderator and two or three other participants who have some informed opinion on a topic. Each panelist would offer her/his view and interact/react to the other panelists. Audience participation is also possible.

What Topics? Anything in the field of ELT that you feel needs change or improvement. You might...

Content Based Instruction

***Currently Inactive***

Welcome to the Content-Based Instruction Special Interest Group (CBI-SIG).

Content-based Instruction has a long history under diverse names. Even today the term "content-based instruction" means different things to different people, with noted scholars such as Rod Ellis, David Nunan, and Jack Richards disagreeing on fundamentals, while specialists such as Echevarria, Pally, and Snow examine widely different perspectives on approaches as well.

The KOTESOL CBI-SIG may be the first of its kind globally, a special interest group looking...
