A new year is dawning (for the second time in as many months). The traditional beginning of the year in Korea has long been the Lunar New Year. This year is the Year of the Pig, according to the oriental zodiac, and as the traditional New Year’s greeting goes, we hope that you receive many New Year’s blessings (새해 복 많이 받으세요).

In Memory of Mitzi Kaufman

On January 11, 2019, Korea TESOL (KOTESOL) lost a prominent member and leader. Mitzi Sarah Kaufman passed away in Daejeon, South Korea. She was a dear friend, a loyal ally, and a passionate teacher to many students and fellow educators. Mitzi truly believed in the power of education as an agent for social change.

Welcome 2019

As I write this, 2018 is quickly coming to an end. The end of a year is often a solemn, even sad, time, but this is certainly not the case for Korea TESOL. The year 2018 has been quite a good year for our organization. We pride ourselves on being a group of “teachers helping teachers,” and I think we have accomplished this in numerous ways.

Busan-Gyeongnam Chapter Executive Board Elections

It's time to choose a new executive BOARD! Nominations for positions were open until November 16. Online voting will close Friday, November 23.  Our election results ceremony and annual planning meeting will be  on Saturday, November 24. We will review the duties of each executive council member, and have a planning meeting to discuss our chapter goals for 2018/2019.  Any and all persons are welcome to attend our meeting, meet our new chapter council, and share their ideas for our chapter.

With completion of the voting process, with ballots cast both online (Survey Monkey) and at the conference, the election outcomes are as follows:

Strong Turnout Expected at International Conference 2018

The Korea TESOL International Conference is this weekend!

The pre-registration numbers have come in, and they have exceeded the committee's expectations.  We now expect to see an increase in the on-site registration as well, making the 2018 conference one of the largest in recent years.  

As seating is limited in the plenary hall, attendees will also be able to watch live-feed of the plenary sessions from one of two overflow rooms.  

Thank you for your understanding, and for making this year's conference one to remember.

Teachers Helping Teachers with Conference Set-up

Korea TESOL is teachers helping teachers.  The International Conference Committee is looking for teachers to help teachers (and some student volunteers) on Friday evening as we prepare for the 26th annual Korea TESOL International Conference. Volunteers will help us move desks to make space for poster presentations and our vendor display areas. They will also help unload the equipment trucks and get set up for Saturday morning. Volunteers will get a small peek at the hard work that goes into setting up the conference. They will also get a feel for the conference venue and have the...
