After our chapter meeting at GNUE, we will be enjoying a year-end holiday dinner at First Recipe in downtown Gwangju. Our final meeting of the year is traditionally joyous and merry, and we really hope you'll join us!
This meeting will include our 2023 chapter elections, and it will be held in our NEW chapter venue, the English Cafe Lounge at GNUE (Creativity Convergence Building/창의융합관, 3rd Floor).

AI in Class: Moving Beyond ChatGPT

It's hard to go a full 24 hours without hearing something about ChatGPT these days. But not everyone is familiar with the range and depth of other AI tools out there. Let's explore the world of quirky, inspiring, and engaging AI sites that you might use in class, whether as fun one-off activities or regularly scheduled lesson aides.
The Presenter
Anjee DiSanto (M.A., Duquesne University) has been teaching in Korean universities since 2007. She currently teaches classes on topics ranging from pop songs to board games to creative writing, and has been using and teaching with AI since long before ChatGPT burst onto the scene.
Communicative Activities & Drama
Tory S. Thorkelson, Hanyang University
The purpose of this workshop will be to demonstrate some practical communicative activities such as dialogues. role plays, and games, as well as drama techniques and methods including puppets, improvisation, and reader’s theater, that can be incorporated into your English lessons and classrooms at any level. These will be useable for both novice and more proficient educators. Both well-known and original techniques designed for the Korean context will be showcased, with participant involvement.
The Presenter
Tory S. Thorkelson (BA, BEd, MEd in TESL/TEFL, Ph.D. Language Studies and Curriculum Design) is a proud Canadian who has been an active KOTESOL member since 1998. He has presented at or worked on many local and international conferences. He is a past president of the Seoul Chapter and KOTESOL (2008- 09) as well as a KOTESOL Teacher Training member. His 9-to-5 job is as an associate professor for Hanyang University’s English Language and Literature Program. He has co-authored/authored research studies (see Korea TESOL Journal) and a few textbooks (print and eBooks). He writes regularly for EFL Magazine.
