Research Grants Opportunities

Announcing the 2014 KOTESOL Research Grants!

As in years past, KOTESOL is proud to support the efforts of its members by offering two types of research grants through the Research Committee. This year, we will offer one "Research Paper Grant" and up to five "Conference Presentation Grants." Please read on for more
information about each type of grant.

Research Paper Grants
Research Paper Grants are offered for the purpose of stimulating new research, especially by beginning researchers, of high quality and worthy of appearing in the Korea TESOL Journal.

For 2014, funds are available for one research paper grant of up to 1,000,000 won for independent research. (including obligation for of presentation at the International Conference). Requests for lower amounts will also be considered. The Research Committee will determine who will receive grants after review of the submitted applications. Recipients will be reported in the June issue of The English Connection.

In addition to submitting a solid research proposal, applicants must:

  • Carry out the ELT research in Korea.
  • Be a current Korea TESOL member for the duration of the research.
  • Be studying and/or working in Korea for the duration of the research.
  • Complete the research within one year of acceptance of their research proposal.
  • Submit the results of the research for publication in the Korea TESOL Journal, or comparable journal, within one year of completion of the research.

Research Paper Grant Proposal Deadline: April 15, 2014

Conference Presentation Grants
The Korea TESOL Conference Presentation Grants have been initiated to encourage members who are new to research to begin with research that will lead to a Korea TESOL International Conference presentation, but not necessarily to a full journal-level research paper.

For 2014, funds are available for five conference presentation grants of 200,000 won each for ELT research to be presented at the International Conference.

  • Complete the research in time to present the results at the Korea TESOL International Conference.
  • Submit the results of the research for publication in KOTESOL Proceedings 2014.
