Forum for the Development of Drama Workshop in ELT (2PM to 2:50PM)

About the Presentation

The use of drama in the ELT classroom has long been understood to be a useful component in second language acquisition within a creative environment. This presentation will outline the presenter’s efforts in combining key performance art skills such as storyboarding, script-writing, producing, directing, acting and performing, with English language conversational skills and the development of confident ESL students. Various drama exercises will be explored to demonstrate how they can be adapted for use in the ESL classroom; delving into methods including mime and improvisation. The aim of this workshop is to open a forum to discuss, share and experiment with ideas from the audience; in pursuance of developing a drama workshop methodology that can be accessible and adaptable for teachers in Korea, whether teaching elementary or university level students. The presentation will include: a PowerPoint displaying example teaching materials and interactive group work and discussion throughout.
