Title: Beyond the Classroom: Teaching English Through Cooking and Art

Abstract:
Experiential learning approaches, such as integrating cooking and art into English instructions, can foster a dynamic and immersive language-learning environment. This presentation explores the use of these creative methods in a university winter camp setting, highlighting their theoretical foundations and practical applications. Drawing from firsthand experience, Gabriela will discuss how these activities contribute to a safe and engaging space for language acquisition. Through an anecdotal reflection, key challenges and effective strategies for implementation will be examined. Attendees will gain insights into designing similar courses and adapting them to diverse educational contexts.

Bio:
Gabriela  is an English teacher hailing from the UK, with a rich background in language education spanning over eight years across diverse global contexts. Holding a BSc in Psychology from Goldsmiths, University of London, she furthered her academic pursuits with an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from the University of Leicester, specialising in Sociolinguistics, Discourse Analysis, and Language and Culture.
Her dedication to pedagogical distinction is evident in her proactive approach to fostering a supportive learning environment, where students are empowered to embrace new challenges, and by promoting well-being through teaching yoga and leading meditations after obtaining her Yoga teacher and Yoga Nidra instructor certificates.
She is the President of KOTESOL’s Busan-Gyeongnam Chapter, and volunteers as a yoga teacher at the Ulsan Support Centre for Foreign Residents. Currently, she teaches at the University of Ulsan.

Title: How to Use Praat Software for Research and Teaching

Abstract:

Praat is a widely recognized speech analysis software that offers various features beneficial for linguistic research. Its capabilities extend beyond basic analysis, providing researchers with tools for in-depth phonetic and prosodic studies. In this workshop we will learn some basic operation of this program. The presenter will show how to use it as a listening test tool and how to use it as a helpful tool for pronunciation learning and teaching. 
Bio:
Yuying Kang is a PhD. course candidate in Jeonju University. Her major is English education and culture. She has taught English in China over 20 years. Her recent research is about English pronunciation teaching and learning.
