DCC 2021 Online Workshop Series: Kimberley Roberts

The DCC 'Wednesday Workshops' are back this month, but this time we're doing it in collaboration with the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Chapter of KOTESOL! We're really glad to be doing this with them, especially as their chapter president, Kimberley Roberts, will be presenting for us. Here are the details:

Presenter: Kimberley Roberts
Date and Time: Weds 27th October, 8-9pm KST
Presentation: Getting Low Level Learners to Speak: Tips and Tricks to Encourage Confidence and Overcome Shyness in Low Level Language Learners

Abstract: Have you ever taught low level learners? Maybe you know that awkward feeling when you’re met with silence during a speaking activity? Was it made even worse by the fact they’re all TEENAGERS? If this is you, don’t worry! Kimberley is here to help! After several years as a middle school teacher she has built up a variety of tips and ideas to help students build confidence and overcome their shyness in classroom speaking activities. This workshop will cover ways to build confidence before a speaking activity, tips for helping shy students feel at ease, as well as share games and activities that students love that are sure to get them speaking.

Bio: Kimberley is from the UK and has been in Korea since 2016, working in the public school system. She also recently finished an MA in TESOL and has a lot of ideas on how theory does (and doesn’t) apply to actual classroom practice. In her free time, she’s an avid gamer, anime connoisseur, and all around nerd. Her hobbies also include yoga, studying Korean, playing janggu, and blogging about her favourite food finds in Daegu.

I'm sure we can all relate to the experience of having quiet low level learners in class, so I think this workshop is going to be a really useful one for us all!

As usual, the event is free to KOTESOL members, but please make sure you register here first:https://forms.gle/a6CDo7CMtBvu2B9g6

Registration will close on Monday 25th October (two days before the workshop).
