The Division of International Studies (DIS) at Hanyang University is an inter-disciplinary undergraduate program in the humanities and social sciences at one of the top private universities in Korea. English is the official language of instruction in the DIS and the students, both domestic and international, are advanced speakers of English. The DIS is currently inviting applications for a full-time (non-tenure track) position in Academic Writing beginning in September 2019. Further details concerning this position are as follows:

 

Minimum qualifications:

1. A graduate degree (MA, MS, or Ph.D.) in English, Applied Linguistics, Communications, or a closely related field.

2. At least three years of university-level teaching experience.

3. Excellent communication skills.

 

Additional preferred qualifications:

1. Ability to teach other courses in the humanities or social sciences, such as World History, Globalization, or Political Science.

2. A record of academic publications.

3. Experience in competitive debate or coaching debate.

 

Essential functions and duties:

1. Teach courses in Academic Writing (and other courses, where appropriate) in accordance with university and departmental policies and procedures.

2. Expected teaching load for this position is 12 class hours per week for 16 weeks in both the spring and fall semesters. (Courses in the summer or winter semesters may also be available at additional pay).

3. Provide students with detailed, individualized feedback that helps them to develop their English writing skills.

4. Assist in curriculum development and work with other faculty members to produce or select course-related materials.

 

Salary and benefits:

1. The base salary for this position is 37-44 million won per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

2. Housing (or housing support) may also be provided in certain circumstances depending on availability.

3. Opportunities for extra income will be available through teaching additional courses and/or participating in entrance examinations.

4. The successful candidate will also be eligible for national health insurance and participate in the pension plan for employees of private universities in Korea.
