A How-to to Research Report Writing
Abstract
Writing a research paper may at first seem like a daunting task. However, with the proper advance preparation and a carefully prepared and executed research project, the writing up of the research report becomes less demanding. Organization is the key. Not knowing exactly where to begin, or how to begin, or how to proceed is often the stumbling block causing writer’s block. “Do I need an abstract – as well as an introduction?” “What formatting style to use? – Can I use what best suits ‘my style’?” “Where should I position my research questions?” “What goes into a reference list?” This session will present the main sections of the typical research paper, such as those found in the Korea TESOL Journal and KOTESOL Proceedings. It will give a breakdown of the component parts of each section and the order they typically appear in. Also included will be how a qualitative or a mixed methods report may differ from a quantitative research report. Sufficient time will be allocated for a Q&A session in order to accommodate both the early-career as well as the more experienced research report writer.
