Using Metaphor and Humor to Save the World - Jeonju North Jeolla meeting, Nov '24

Wesley Martin presented on how to make climate change real to middle school students. He based his lesson on using a little humor and a lot of metaphors. We brainstormed ways to find substitutes for climate change. One way is to see climate change as a moving bus that is going off a cliff. How can we save ourselves? After a number of suggestions, we looked at the benefits of using metaphors and humor to teach about crisis related themes. One way was to scaffold new vocabulary and to shelter from negative emotions. When the wolf is at the door it is better to laugh aloud than to despair.

Making Connections at the September JNJ KOTESOL Meeting

September 21st saw our first meeting since the summer break. A popup market was held in
conjunction with our meeting, opening early to welcome shoppers and attendees. We had
silk bags and clothes and sweets, jewelry, Turkish-Arabic food, Hanji ornaments and
accessories, crocheted art and calligraphy. After a short time for shopping we had our first

Korea 101 and AI in writing classes – JNJ KOTESOL, March 2024 workshop

JNJ KOTESOL kicked off the new academic year with its March workshop featuring two
presenters.

First up, Sarah Mack, an American with 11 years' experience living in Korea, shared her
insights on how to survive and thrive here. She addressed employee and tenant rights,
unusual laws, and how to approach qualifying for an F visa.

Call for Proposals - Jeonju North Jeolla KOTESOL Regional Conference 2020

The Jeonju KOTESOL Chapter is presently accepting proposals for the 2020 Regional Conference.  The conference will consist of several concurrent 50 minute presentations as well as a Poster Presentation session consisting of several speakers doing 15-20 minute presentations.  Proposals on all ELT-related topics will be accepted.

Proposal Submission Deadline:  Late Summer ~ Early Autumn, 2020.

JNJ KOTESOL's 2019 Wrap-up and Year End Workshop

Jeonju North Jeolla KOTESOL has had an outstanding year!

They were chosen to host the 2019 KOTESOL National Conference and really gave it their all; welcoming teachers from far and wide to experience excellent presentations to invigorate their teaching practice. 

In the spring, they treated us with workshop presentations by Sam Costa, Rachel Barker, Betsey Norman, and Ehean Kim. The presentations encompassed topics such as: classroom management skills, assessment as part of the learning process, project based learning, and fun ways to enrich vocabulary.
