Jeonju North Jeolla April Workshop Recap and Upcoming Events

On April 4th at a workshop at JBNU,  Dr. Natalie Thibault, one of our own, presented on "Learning with Diagrams". She spoke about how students' creating has positive impacts on learning. She showed us different ways to do that in class using things like Venn diagrams and flow charts, and how expansive it can be.
Nicole Cyr explained about social emotional learning. Then we discussed things like practical applications and using SEL competencies in your class. Self reflection is also an important part of teaching using SEL.
We had an executive meeting before the workshop to discuss our regional conference, "Challenges and Opportunities for Provincial Education in Korea" on September 5, 2026.  We are putting out a call for papers until June 26, 2026 at jnjpresenters@gmail.com. We are very happy that Dr Natalie Thibault accepted our proposal to be our plenary speaker!
In other exciting news, we are currently planning our next meeting for June 13th. Arrangements are still being organized. The speakers will be our own lifetime member, Lily Tintin - Teaching Listening: From Principles to Practice and coming in from out of province we have Kristina Kauss - Supportive Language Education Utilizing Technology and Differentiation Strategies.
We are taking May off because of the KOTESOL International Conference at Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul on May 16th and 17th. Thomas Farrell, Saturday's plenary speaker, is always interesting and humorous. Our chapter officers Lisa, Natalie and Ingrid are volunteering at the conference and some other members plan to go as well. Hope to see you there!
