Why is the conference online this year?
In October 2021, the KOTESOL International Conference Committee directors decided, after extensive discussion, to recommend that the international conference be held exclusively online for at least one more year. Although Korea is slowly starting to ease social distancing restrictions, it is currently impossible to guess what the status of COVID and the government's regulations will be in Spring 2022, and it's better for planning (for presenters, attendees, and the committee, alike!) to have a firm decision sooner rather than later.
In addition to current uncertainty, an online-only conference right now offers a variety of advantages. First, an online venue helps ensure more equitable access for participants around the globe, including those from countries with lower vaccination rates or less-powerful visas as well as those with less time/money for participation in in-person activities overseas. The cost of an in-person (or even hybrid) conference can be astronomical, both for the committee and for participants, in terms of time, money, and effort required. In-person (and hybrid) conferences also generate a lot of waste, which we have tried to minimize in the past but seems an especially vital commitment this year, in light of our "better world" theme. In short, we want to "walk the talk," as it were, to create an eco-friendly conference that truly supports diversity, equity, and inclusion to the fullest extent possible.
How much does the conference cost?
We're striving to keep the conference ticket prices low in order to increase access for participants across the globe; our annual conference continues to be one of the most affordable ELT conferences offered by professional organizations worldwide.

How can I participate in the conference?
Join our online event platform! The platform is called Edzil.la, and you can join our specific conference site here. Once you create an account, you can "join" our event and get a conference ticket. Then you will have a variety of options on the site. You can customize your profile, visit virtual booths, check the schedule, find links to asynchronous sessions, communicate with other participants on our conference Discord server, save sessions to your personal "favorites" list, and more.
During the conference, itself, current and upcoming sessions will be listed on the "Live" page; the Zoom links will automatically appear there about ten minutes prior to the start of each session. Just click the link (it says "Click to enter Session"), and you'll be transported to the appropriate Zoom room. (We recommend downloading the most current version of Zoom in advance.)
More detailed instructions for joining the online platform, purchasing a ticket, and interacting with the platform are available as a PDF here and at the bottom of this page. If you have a coupon code for a free (pre-paid) ticket, here and below are some step-by-step instructions for redeeming it.
Is it possible to get an attendance/presentation certificate?
Yes, absolutely! Downloadable presentation and attendance certificates will be available on the conference platform, Edzil.la, at the conclusion of the conference. You can find both in your Edzil.la profile (under "Your Ticket"). This conference includes 20 hours' worth of professional development opportunities (including the pre-conference plenary).
