The Department of English Education in the College of Education at Keimyung University invites
applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position for the spring semester of 2018 (beginning on
March 1st, 2018; not negotiable).
Keimyung University is a well-established third-level institution in Daegu, South Korea. The
university was founded in 1899, and now has in excess of 26,000 domestic students and
approximately 800 international students. Keimyung is the 9th largest University in South Korea.
Keimyung University also has one of the largest communities of international professors in
Korea, with over 100 professors drawn from all over the world.
The department of English Education was established as part of the College of Education in
2008 in response to the growing need to cultivate secondary school English teachers who can
effectively teach English through English (TETE). Based on many years of experience in the
teaching field and in teacher training programs, the faculty in the department work toward
developing highly skilled educators who are creative and innovative, and who can instill in
students a sense of ethicality and effectively prepare students for leadership in a highly
competitive globalized society.
Course offered by the department that would be taught by the incoming instructor would include:
Teaching Listening and Speaking; Teaching Reading and Writing; Academic Reading and
Reflection; Critical Reading and Reflection; English Composition 1 and 2; and English Teaching
Practices.

teaching practice.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have either a doctoral or master's degree in TESOL (English Education),
Applied Linguistics, preferably with experience teaching English to Asian students. Candidates
with a master's degree should have a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience after the
degree is conferred. Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and
research; an ability to collaborate with the faculty and staff members; and a commitment to
supervising and advising students.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have primary responsibilities including teaching undergraduate
and graduate courses (12 hours per week), supervising thesis and dissertation proposals,
advising students, and serving on faculty committees.
Salary and Housing
The successful candidate will be paid between KRW 44,400,000 and 49,200,000 per year
depending on qualifications.
The university will provide an on-campus apartment (International House – Foreign Faculty
Dormitory) or a housing subsidy for a privately secured housing (KRW 3.0 million per semester tax
will be deducted following the relevant law) in principle. The university will provide housing in
consideration of the employee's circumstances, the availability of housing and the current
housing subsidy budget. The utilities and other management of maintenance charge shall be
borne by the employee. Additionally, if international faculty members live together, only one
faculty members shall be provided with the designated housing or a housing subsidy.
