Abstract:

“Practical English Teaching Tips and Tools”

Teachers frequently find themselves short on time and with the need to spice up the standard array of classroom activities. This presentation aims to introduce a wide variety of activities that are easy to implement, enjoyable, and have positive learning outcomes.  While the primary focus of these activities is on the elementary school level, many of them are also applicable at more advanced levels.  It will cover things such as worksheet creation, creative ways of teaching vocabulary, crafting activities that assist in the review process, a variety of ways to teach the alphabet, and activities to use when storytelling and role-playing.

Speaker Bio:

Tyler Clark has spent the past 12 years teaching English to a wide variety of learners in South Korea.  He is currently a lecturer at Gyeongin National University of Education, a position he has held since 2009 and that primarily sees him instructing university freshman in conversational English skills. In addition to this, he spends time working with teacher trainees in the Intensive English Teacher Training Program at Gyeongin. Furthermore, he holds weekly classes with community members of a wide variety of ages as part of a lifelong education program.  From 2010-2015 he was also involved with Gyeongin's Dream Tree Program (굼나무안심학교). In this after-school program, he worked with groups of first-, second-, and third-grade elementary school students who were just beginning their English journey.  He began his teaching career with three years of educating the children of Pori Elementary School in Siheung, an experience that grounded him for the adventures to come. In his private life, Tyler enjoys all things technology-related, does a spot of photography, and revels in the joys of creating and savoring a good cup of coffee.
