Have you been suddenly thrust into the world of blended learning? Do you need an introduction to online learning platforms and strategies? Join us in a special workshop hosted by Bryan Hale, which will focus on Naver Band as a teaching tool. We will also touch on other teaching/learning platforms, as well as ideas to keep our students engaged and actively learning language in a new and challenging (but exciting!) environment.
Recently many English language teachers in Korea have been thrust into the world of online teaching. But perhaps there were aspects of our teaching practice which were actually taking place online already, and there may be elements of online interaction worth maintaining even as we return to the physical classroom.
With this in mind, this workshop offers teachers an opportunity to explore some options and strategies for blended learning. Areas to be covered in the workshop include:
* Designing communicative activities which can be carried out using text-based chat rooms, forums, and social networking services, both synchronously and asynchronously.
* Considerations around setting up LMS and/or social networking systems to allow for interaction and follow-up outside class time.
* Discussion of equity and social justice concerns around students’ access to tech and online platforms.
The workshop will focus on Naver BAND in particular, but will be applicable to many platforms. We will meet using Zoom, so that we can share some face-to-face discussion, but participants will also have the opportunity to experience some text-based chat/messaging activities. All are welcome to join, but please pre-register using this form by 11:00 am on Saturday. (This allows time for setup of the workshop.)

Bio:
Bryan Hale teaches at Yeongam High School in Jeollanamdo, and is currently serving as first vice-president of KOTESOL and Gwangju-Jeonnam chapter president. He has worked with all age groups, but especially tweens and teenagers, and previously spent several years teaching elementary and middle school students in both public and hagwon settings. Recently he has been using BAND for both synchronous online lessons and follow-up outside class time, and has lots of ideas to share about blended learning.

영어 선생님들, 안녕하세요! 요즘 갑작스러운 온라인 수업 혹은 혼합 학습 (blending learning: online + face to face teaching & learning)이 잘 진행되고 있으신가요? 혹시, 교실 수업이 아닌, 온라인 수업을 진행하다 보니, 보다 전문적인 온라인 학습 플랫폼과 전략에 대한 소개에 대한 필요를 느끼고 계신 선생님들도 계실까요? 많약 그러한 필요들이 있으시다면, KOTESOL Seoul Chapter에서는 "네이버 밴드"를 교육 도구로 집중 조명할 Bryan Hale이 주최하는 특별 워크숍을 소개해 드리려 합니다. 이 특별 워크숍에서는 학생들이 새롭고 도전적인 환경에서도, 적극적이고 흥미롭게 언어를 배우려는 수업 참여와 지속적인 수업 집중을 이끌어 내기 위한 아이디어뿐만 아니라 다른 교습/학습 플랫폼도 다룰 것입니다.
최근 한국의 많은 영어 교사들은 갑작스러운 상황때문에, 대부분의 교육이 필연적으로 온라인에서 진행하고 있지만, 앞으로 실제 교실 수업교육으로 돌아간 후에도, 계속적으로 유지할 가치가 있는 온라인 상호작용의 교육 요소들이 있을 것으로 생각됩니다.
이러한 점을 염두에 두고, 이 워크숍은 교사들에게 혼합 학습 (blending learning)을 위한 몇 가지 선택사항과 전략을 탐구할 수 있는 기회를 제공할 계획이며, 구체적으로 워크숍에서 다룰 영역은 다음과 같습니다.
* 문자 기반 채팅방, 포럼, 소셜네트워크서비스(SNS)를 이용하여 동기 및 비동기식으로 수행할 수 있는 커뮤니케이션 활동 설계
* LMS 및/또는 소셜 네트워킹 시스템을 설치하여 수업 시간 이외의 시간에 상호 작용 및 후속 조치를 취할 수 있도록 하는 것에 대한 고려 사항.
* 기술 및 온라인 플랫폼으로의 학생들의 접근과 관련된 형평성 및 사회 정의에 대한 논의
이번 워크숍은 특히 "네이버 밴드"를 중심으로 진행되지만, 다른 많은 플랫폼에 적용이 가능합니다. 줌(Zoom)을 이용해 만나 대면 토론을 할 예정이고, 참가자들 또한 문자 기반의 채팅/메시지 활동을 경험할 수 있는 기회를 갖을 수 있습니다. 관심 있으신 모든 분들의 참여를 환영하고, 미리 온라인 워크샵 준비를 위해 이번주 토요일 (5월 9일) 오전 11시까지 이 양식을 사용하여 사전 등록을 부탁드립니다.

Bryan Hale은 전라남도 영암고등학교에서 교편을 잡고 있으며, 현재 KOTESOL 초대 부회장과 광주전남 KOTESOL지부장을 역임하고 있습니다. 그는 모든 연령층, 특히 청소년들과 함께 일해 오고 있고, 이전에는 공립과 학원 환경에서 몇 년간 초등학생과 중학생들을 가르쳤던 경험을 가지고 있습니다. 최근 그는 동기식 온라인 수업과 수업 시간 외 후속 개인 학습에 모두 BAND를 사용하고 있으며, 혼합 학습에 대해 공유할 많은 아이디어를 가지고 있다.
