A Word about KOTESOL Voices

KOTESOL is first and foremost a professional organization, but the professional is rarely completely discrete from the personal. Our experiences and backgrounds color our perspectives, beliefs, and understandings of the world, which in turn shape how we regard teaching, our students, our purpose, and even ourselves. The personal inevitably inflects our perceptions of and responses to our context, informing our values, attitudes, and the ways we exist in and interpret the world around us. What does it mean to be a teacher, an expat, a learner, a human? Our responses to these questions are inextricably entwined with our personal pasts, our present teacher-selves, and the ways we (have/do/will) experience life in Korea.

It is thus with great pleasure that we present the manifold personal sides of teaching--an effort to explore the many angles of refraction that characterize our lives; the crystalline nature of truth, which looks different depending on the angle from which you view it; and the plethora of ways of being in the world.
