Workshop 1: "All Work and No Play Keeps Well-Being at Bay: A Practical Guide to Taking Charge of Wellbeing for Busy Professionals"
Abstract: This workshop is designed to provide professionals with practical, accessible strategies to promote well-being in their personal and professional lives. It will begin with an exploration of key theories on well-being, emphasising its profound impact on overall health, particularly when diminished by stress or a lack of focus on activities that nourish our minds and spirits.
Participants will then engage in brief sample activities and explore tailored approaches to identifying and meeting their unique well-being needs, even amidst demanding schedules. The session will conclude with a reflective exercise, encouraging participants to consider how they can better prioritise their own well-being and maintain accountability without succumbing to guilt or burnout.
The overarching message of the workshop underscores the importance of achieving a harmonious balance between work and play, ensuring that well-being remains a central and uncompromised part of daily life.
Bio: Gabriela is an English teacher hailing from the UK, with a rich background in language education spanning over seven years across diverse global contexts. Holding a BSc in Psychology from Goldsmiths, University of London, she furthered her academic pursuits with an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from the University of Leicester, specialising in Sociolinguistics, Discourse Analysis, and Language and Culture.
Her dedication to pedagogical distinction is evident in her proactive approach to fostering a supportive learning environment, where students are empowered to embrace new challenges, and by promoting well-being through teaching yoga and leading meditations after obtaining her Yoga teacher, and Yoga Nidra instructor certificates.
She is the President of KOTESOL’s Busan-Gyeongnam Chapter, and volunteers as a yoga teacher at the Ulsan Support Centre for Foreign Residents. Currently, she teaches at the University of Ulsan.
Workshop 2:
Reflection session to be paired with fortunetelling as an exciting and unconventional addition to encourage a reflective and fun atmosphere.
Lindsay Herron, national KOTESOL president and chapter Treasurer, has prepared some reflection questions for us. We will have a chance to share via discussion stations.
