Workshop 1: Bored? Board Games!
Presented by Ingrid Zwaal

Motivation to study English at any age is difficult. Korean students like games and competition, but parents don’t understand that putting study in the form of gamification is still valid and useful learning. I have used board games with students from kindergarten to university. I will show you examples and how to make your own, tailored to your students’ needs.

About the Presenter

Ingrid Zwaal has been in Jeonju since 1994, teaching many different levels of students. She has been a member of KOTESOL since 1998 and an active member locally and nationally and with the international conference for many years. She wants everything to be fun, mostly for herself. Teachers need motivation, too.

Workshop 2: What Color Is Your Personality? And Other Ideas That Work!
Presented by Allison Bill

You already have a textbook for your class, but it's getting boring... You don't know how to spice it up... You want to get your students out of their seats and interacting with each other…

Here are 8 activities that will get your students talking, such as when they debate whether liking the colour red makes them aggressive. The activities are a break from the book, and they are ready for you to take into your classroom on Monday morning. Some can be used as ice-breakers, or as a way to move students into new groups. Others can be used for longer group work.

I have used these activities with middle school students, with university students, as well as with in-service teachers. They can be adapted to match students of almost any age or ability level. The students have fun with them, and so do I. Be prepared to participate in partner and group work in this workshop. What colour is YOUR personality?
