We will meet again on the top floor of ELMO Study Cafe in Downtown Daegu (Banwoldang Station). Both members and non-members are welcome alike and there is no fee for attending. Light snacks are provided and an assortment of coffees and teas are available for purchase on the second floor. We ask that you do not bring outside drinks into the cafe.

Details on the Workshop and Swap Shop:

Part 1: PowerPoint Power-Up: Equipping Students with Visual Literacy (Brian Grover)

Tired of watching mostly banal, visually uninspired, student presentations rife with unoriginal, plagiarized content I realized students have never been exposed to even the most basic tenets of solid visual communication. The problem was, presentations were not imparting learning. Rather, students were going through mechanical motions to fulfill some kind of course requirement. This applied to all of their courses. For that reason, I moved presentation-making front and center. Through the nexus of a content course, British & American Culture, I came up with a formula for passing on some simple elements of superior presentation-making that can be adapted and applied through just about any content-based course. Students come away with effective presentation-making skills which can be immediately applied to all of their courses and beyond, in the case of my students, to their professional lives as they go on to become classroom teachers in their own right, making presentations daily. In our increasingly visual world, visual literacy is as essential as basic literacy was a century ago. The need to competently create and give presentations applies to business, government, science, politics: just about every endeavor students may eventually find themselves in.
