Undead ELT?: Humanizing Language Teaching in Postnormal Times

Session types:
All proposals related to language education, teaching practice, and/or applied linguistics will be considered. However, we particularly encourage proposals related to the theme of humanizing language teaching in postnormal times. Ziauddin Sardar (2010) described 'postnormal times' as "an in-between period where old orthodoxies are dying, new ones have yet to be born, and very few things seem to make sense." Proposal topics related to this theme could include AI and its relationship to language learning and teaching, technological and industrial changes and their impact on ELT, post-pandemic practices, the continuing role of traditional teaching approaches, issues around implementing new approaches and reform in Korean EFL, or more.

We are seeking proposals under the following formats. However, if you want us to consider an alternative format, you can also let us know about your ideas.

  • Workshop:
    • 45 minutes
    • interactive
    • focused on classroom practice or professional skills
    • could be about language activities, classroom management, lesson planning, curriculum design, skills related to various forms of career development...
       
  • Discussion/Hangout
    • 45 minutes
    • discussion about a particular topic related to English Language Teaching
    • discussion led by a presenter but involving attendee participation
    • discussions designed for particular kinds of attendee are welcome - for example, especially for public school teachers, especially for non-native English speaker teachers
       
  • Research Report
    • 20 minutes
    • presenting research and taking audience questions
       
  • Poster/Mini Booth
    • pleased be prepared to spend at least 45 minutes with your poster/mini booth, discussing it with attendees
    • a poster or interactive 'mini booth' showcasing something related to ELT
    • could be showcasing student work or a particular education program, a teaching idea, action research results...
    • WARNING: if you attach anything to walls, please use something easy-to-remove, such as blu-tack or not-too-strong masking tape. (More instructions to follow for accepted posters.)
