When can I preregister for the international conference?
Preregistration for the international conference will open August 1 and continue to September 30.
I can’t remember my KOTESOL account user name and/or password.
Enter your email address (the one you used to open the account) as the user name, then click "Request new password." You will receive an email with your user name and a temporary password, which can be changed after you successfully log in (My Account --> Edit). Step-by-step instructions can also be found here.
When does my membership expire?
You can find your KOTESOL membership information on your online account profile page: koreatesol.org/user. One-year KOTESOL memberships purchased at last year's International Conference expire on September 30, 2018 Member discounts for the 2018 International Conference are based on a membership expiration date of October 31, 2018, or later. You can find more information about membership expiration dates here.
Korea TESOL is unable to accept credit cards or PayPal. If you choose to register at the conference venue instead of online, please bring cash.
Why no credit cards?
While credit card processing by for-profit businesses in South Korea is supported and even encouraged by the government, the banking laws, tax structures, and reporting systems here make the use of credit cards in nonprofit associations difficult and expensive. Accordingly, almost no academic society in Korea does so. The same is true for electronic payment systems such as PayPal and KakaoPay. In addition, off-shore banking and use of personal accounts in lieu of registered organization bank accounts create significant legal liability for both the association and the individuals involved.
We continue to look for alternate ways to facilitate payments from overseas; but for the foreseeable future, bank transfer remains the only type of payment we can accept. TransferWise might be an acceptable option (we have not yet verified this); or, if you have friends and colleagues who are also attending the conference, feel free to transfer everyone's payment together, at the same time! Just email us to let us know what the payment is for, and for whom. Thank you for your understanding and patience!
Probably. We try to send out email confirmations within 7-10 business days of receiving payment, but due to the summer break and the high number of people pre-registering, this isn’t always possible. In addition, our confirmation emails are sometimes blocked by overzealous spam filters. The best way to confirm your registration (and/or print an invoice) is online at koreatesol.org: Log in → My account → Orders.
I’m a graduate student. Can I get a student discount?
No. Student discounts are only available for undergraduate students who are currently studying.

I can't see the fields on the registration form; they're all black! How can I register?
This is a known problem with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 web browser. Very rarely the problem can also be caused by a bad web browser plug-in or a screen-reading virus that is looking for private information.
To avoid this dark overlay, please try using a newer version of Internet Explorer (IE9 and up) or another browser, such as Firefox or Chrome.
How can I get my conference pass?
You can pick up your conference pass in the pre-registration area at the conference. It will be filed under your family (last) name.
Saturday: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Sunday: 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
I’m a group leader. Can I pick up all the passes for my group members?
Based on past experience and feedback from group leaders in prior years, we do not recommend doing this; but yes, it's possible. Group leaders can pick up passes for all group members if they notify us in advance that they'd like to do so. Please indicate in the comments field of the registration form that you’d like to do this, or send us an email ASAP. We’ll pull out your group passes and have them waiting for you.
NOTE: If you choose to do this, please remember to tell your group members they must get their passes from you, not at Registration!
NOTE: If you choose to do this, group leaders ONLY may pick up the passes, or they can delegate someone and send us that person’s name. The person responsible for picking up the passes must show photo ID to do so.
I am a KOTESOL member. Can I still register as part of a group?
Yes, but if you do so you must pay the group price (65,000 won per person).
I need an official receipt to give to my institution. How can I get one?
Printable invoices are available online (My account → Orders). Hard copies of receipts will also be available at the conference. Please inquire at Registration.
I need a letter of invitation so I can get a visa to attend the conference!
Sorry; KOTESOL does not issue letters of invitation to conference attendees.
Please note that KOTESOL membership dues and registration fees are non-refundable; we suggest that you check visa requirements with the Korean consulate in your country before proceeding.
I bought my membership at the conference last year. Can I get a discount as a member this year?
Sorry; to qualify for a discount as a KOTESOL member, your membership must expire on or after October 31, 2018. If you purchased your membership at the conference last year, your membership expires before this date. Please consider renewing your membership today! (You can renew your membership as part of your conference registration, if you wish.)
I can’t go to the conference, but I pre-registered. Can I get a refund?
Sorry, refunds are not possible. You may give your pass to someone else, though; please see below.
I can’t go to the conference, but I pre-registered. Can I give my conference pass to a friend?
Yes, you can do this. Just send us the new pass-holder's full name as soon as possible. If you let us know the new pass-holder’s name before pre-registration closes, we’ll change your name to that name. If you send us the new name after pre-registration closes, he/she can pick up your pass in the pre-registration area at the conference. It will be under your name. The new pass-holder should bring his/her ID to prove he/she is the person you have approved.
I’m a presenter, but I don’t understand the payment options on the registration form. Can you please explain the fees in more detail?
First, all presenters must be members of KOTESOL. KOTESOL membership costs 50,000 won for Korea-based members and 70,000 won ($70 USD) for international members. (If you’re currently a member, your membership must expire on or after October 31, 2018. If it doesn’t, you have to renew it!)
The registration fee for presenters is 60,000 won ($60 USD).
If you’re NOT based in Korea and you’re planning to send the funds by international wire transfer, you’ll have to include an extra 10,000 won ($10 USD) to cover international wire transfer receiver fees. You’re also responsible for all sender fees. There is NO wire transfer receiver fee if you’re paying by Korea Japan International Postal Money Order.
Example: If you’re an international presenter who is not currently a KOTESOL member, your fees break down like this: presenter registration fee (60,000) + international membership (70,000) + wire transfer receiver fee (10,000) = 140,000/$140 USD.
I'm a presenter coming from outside of Korea. Can I pay onsite?
If you are a presenter who lives outside of Korea, you can obtain permission to pay onsite. Just email us to let us know why you can't pay in advance, and provide evidence that you're definitely going to attend the conference (i.e., a copy of your plane ticket). Please bring cash (Korean won) to the conference site. Note: If you want to pay onsite, you must still register for the conference using the appropriate form, and you must get prior approval from our registration team! If you don't, we will assume your lack of payment/registration means you're not coming to the conference.
