Now that the weather is cooler, it is time for our next Jeonju North Jeolla Kotesol workshop. It will be held at 2:45 on September 15 at Jeonju University in Star Center. Our first presenter will be from one of own, Ingrid Zwaal. Her presentation will be on "Creating Your Own Materials". She will address creating original material and altering other material to suit your classes' needs.

The second half of the meeting will be a swap shop, so please bring in an idea or short lesson you can share with others. If you have never given a presentation before, this is a good opportunity to get your feet wet by presenting an idea in front of an audience of your peers! If not, just learn with the rest of us.

And a reminder that our  conference will be held on November 17 at Jeonju University so if you would like to present, the call for presenters is going out this week and of course you are welcome to just attend our conference too so remember to keep that date open for the conference.

Creating your Own Materials

So you have your lesson ready but you still want more practice for your students.  Sure, there are exercises in the workbook but you want something more, that fun or exciting activity that makes the lesson memorable or at least less boring. You look through activity books and on the Internet. There are some good things but they are too high or low for your level class or it isn't really ESL friendly.  Is it easy to change? If you have some time, you can change that exercise into exactly what you want. Or create exactly the exercise, card game or board game that can reinforce your lesson with practice for the students. It is easier than you think.

Ingrid Zwaal has been in Jeonju almost a quarter if a century. She has a Master"s in Education and a keen interest in gamification. Her zoo includes four birds and two rescue dogs, Boris and Adam. She loves volleyball and writing.
