14. Charles Browne - Featured Speaker (IC2013)

Charles Browne is Professor of Applied Linguistics and head of the EFL teacher training program at Meiji Gakuin University in Japan, and a well-known expert on English education in Asia. He received his Ed.D. from Temple University and is a specialist in CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) and Second Language Vocabulary Acquisition. Over the past 25 years that he has worked in Japan, Dr. Browne has published dozens of research articles and books, including “New Perspectives in CALL for Second Language Classrooms” (2004; co-edited with Sandra Fotos), and has authored a monthly column for the number one English education journal in Japan (Eigo Kyoiku). He was the first National Chairman of the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Program, worked for the Japanese Ministry of Education as a teacher-training specialist and on the national textbook committee, and has led language learning product development for such software companies as EnglishCentral, GoFluent, and Lexxica.
