PRESENTATION: Tech-savvy Project-based Learning: Mentoring vs. Teaching
Laura Stephenson
Veteran teacher at Dongseo University, Coder, Novelist.

Abstract:
Technology is being increasingly integrated into classrooms today. But, how do teachers teach utilizing this technology to the fullest? How does this benefit the teachers, students, parents, and the school administration?

Why technology?

Students generally have a fifteen-minute attention span at the most. They tend to focus longer with technology. It is relatively easy for you and you students to watch YouTube videos on how to create texts, presentations, forms, and more in the free Google Docs. The students then work with each other to turn their ideas into reality, and can share all their files in Google Docs. This fosters teamwork, computer literacy, planning, delegation, the integration of more than one concept or even subject, and much more. English can be used to discuss many subjects, from history to hard science. These powerful tools make a class interesting and fun.

Benefits of Technology in Classrooms

My students learn and retain more, and find the class interesting and fun. They also have something concrete to show their parents and school administration. Students can make items of use to other students, such as games, blogs, and videos. They can also create items they can use to show employers their skills, and gain tech skills.
