2018 Candidate Profiles
President
Elizabeth May is a Lecturer at Sangmyung University, in Seoul. Previously she has taught in a variety of settings covering all age groups in both public and private institutions in South Korea for the last 7 years and previously in Thailand. She has been awarded her MEd (Applied Linguistics) and MA (Education), with a research focus on technology in education, and more recently on the blended learning approach to language education. Previously, Elizabeth has presented at a wide variety of conferences and events across Korea. She also currently serves as the Vice President for the Seoul KoTESOL chapter, for her third term and is excited for the new challenge that being President would offer!
Vice President
Kara Waggoner currently teaches at Sookmyung Women’s University YL and PL TESOL programs where she specializes in curriculum development. Prior to coming to Korea, she taught in the United States, teaching diverse student populations of all ages and subjects. Kara’s fields of interest include curriculum development, teaching special needs populations, and ESL policy.
Secretary
Jonathan Patch is Head Teacher at Pagoda Academy, Gangnam, and an MA Applied Linguistics-TESOL candidate at the Institute of Education-University College London, where he is currently working on a dissertation on the role of language in processes of transnational migration. He completed a B.Ed. in urban education at the University of Toronto (2011), and before that a B.A. in History (2008).
Jonathan’s experience in EFL spans a decade; he has been immersed in education as both a learner and teacher in a number of settings, including Beijing, Seoul, and Toronto. Through these experiences, Jonathan has developed a philosophy of education grounded in social justice.
Aside from working as a language instructor and studying his graduate school program, Jonathan is the Secretary for the Seoul chapter of KOTESOL.
Treasurer
Sean Dailey holds a B.A. in History from the University of California Riverside and an M.A. in Education from the TESOL program at California State University San Bernardino. He has 12 years of experience teaching, including English at the middle school level in California and EFL at all levels in South Korea. Sean currently resides in Seoul and teaches in the Global Education Department at Hansei University. He also holds a position as Core Faculty Member and Assistant Professor of Education at Westcliff University where he teaches various courses online in the College of Education MA TESOL program. He also edits ESL textbooks and is a Teaching Assistant in the MA TESOL program at California State University San Bernardino. Sean is currently the Membership Coordinator for the Seoul KOTESOL chapter.
