CLT in an Elementary English Classroom
 

Abstract
This workshop orients participants to the teaching of grammar in a communicative classroom. We will present activities that will exemplify the principles of communicative methodology as espoused by Christopher Candlin. Participants receive handouts describing differences between the Audiolingual Method (ALM) and Communicative Language Teaching (CLT).
 

Biographicals

Sarah Balbuena Gonzales teaches in the grade school level on a full-time basis at the Integrated School of the University of the Philippines. She has served as a trainer-facilitator in Teaching Beginning Reading for public school multi-grade teachers all over the Philippines.

Marilu Rañosa-Madrunio is a university professor handling English and applied linguistics courses. She has been an English trainer of the Foundation for Upgrading the Standard of Education (FUSE), giving training to public and private secondary English teachers in the Philippines. She is a member of the Technical Committee for English Language of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the government agency that supervises the programs offered by higher education institutions in the Philippines.
