 1. All students to the stage please
 Presenter: Joseph Greenwood

A workshop exploring the uses and advantages of using theater in the classroom. Whether this be creating a short role play using the target language you have learnt that week, or using improvisation to test your students conversational skills in a real world situation, theater can have a huge variety of uses in the classroom. Not only can it be an excellent way for teachers to keep students interested and motivated, it can also be hugely exciting and rewarding for students to perform something entirely in the language they have been striving to learn. Theater can be a versatile and stimulating tool for all ages and abilities!

Drawing from Augusto Boal's work on forum theater, and utilizing such books as Mark Powell's 'Presenting in English' the talk will work through different exercises teachers can use with their students, including their advantages and targets. It will then be opened up for a discussion about how teachers can best use the tool of theater with different ages and abilities. The take away from the talk will be a greater understanding of the useful tool of theater in the classroom, as well as some exercises for teachers to try themselves!

 Bio:
Joe Greenwood studied an Acting BA at a prestigious drama school in England, and was a working actor, specializing in performing Theatre in Education all over the UK.
He also recently completed the Trinity Diploma in TESOL, and enjoys marrying his two favourite educational tools. Theater and phonetics!
Since coming to Korea he has used his knowledge of the two in many different formats, to enhance his classes and entertain his students! His interests include theater, travel and surfing.

 2. Using Their Imagination
 Presenter: Miriam Lee

This presentation will look at the usefulness of play in class and ways of using imagination. We will explore different ways of using puppets and puppetry as well as visualization and story-telling. The teaching tools and methods discussed can be used by teachers of all levels and ages. The aim is to break the barriers of self-consciousness, which inhibits fluency, and to help create a comfortable environment for speaking English.

 Bio:
Miriam Lee, while not defending her Noraebang title or re-organizing her NPR mug collection, is most likely singing in the hallway at the Jeonju English Center, where she teaches all the fifth graders of Jeonju to sing the Do Re Mi song. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Connecticut (in the United States) in 2003 in Art History and Anthropology, and received third place in a Care Bears coloring contest in Jersey City in 1986.We look forward to seeing you soon.
