Curb Plastic Contamination Through Communication Skills: Towards Best Practices in a South African University
Mzukisi Howard Kepe (South Africa)

Abstract

The increasing rate of plastic pollution is a major concern due to the public and plastic industry contributing to environmental contamination. In this study, I investigate how universities of technology can use computational thinking and communication skills to mitigate the harm caused by environmental plastic pollution. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, the study demonstrated how communication skills through advocacy, integrated projects, and systems computational thinking can identify cutting-edge strategies that balance ecological and social systems.

About the Presenter

Mzukisi Howard Kepe
I have a PhD in English language education. I value a constructivist approach, employing a developmental approach to understanding human activity. I am interested in how people read the world and author their lives, specifically when they move from one literacy situation and language identity to another. Furthermore, I believe language should not be reduced to “good English” or “good grammar” alone but should be viewed as social practice.
