Annual Business Meeting: Tuesday, November 1, 7 p.m.

KOTESOL's Annual Business Meeting (ABM) is open to all members. The ABM will be held Tuesday, November 1, starting at 7 p.m. To attend, please register by 12 noon Tuesday. 

The meeting will include reports on KOTESOL's past year, and announcement of election results. This year there are no proposed amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws.

Note: the ABM is not a workshop, and only KOTESOL members are invited to attend.

Call for Proposed Amendments to Constitution & Bylaws

KOTESOL's Annual Business Meeting (ABM) will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, starting at 7 p.m., in accordance with the KOTESOL Constitution & Bylaws. (Find information about attending the ABM here.)

During the ABM, any proposed amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws will be voted upon by all members in attendance. Please submit any proposed amendments (along with five endorsements from other current members) to the KOTESOL president by September 30. These will be distributed online and electronically (via email) at least 30 days prior to the ABM.

KOTESOL Seeks National Treasurer

KOTESOL is currently seeking a new national treasurer. Our outgoing treasurer, Danielle Kinnison, is leaving Korea. She will be greatly missed! But her departure does mean there is an opportunity for somebody detail-oriented and responsible to contribute to KOTESOL in a vital way and gain valuable experience.

National Council Guidance on Potential Changes to Social Distancing

At the KOTESOL National Council meeting on April 10th, 2022, Council discussed reports that social distancing rules may be changed or dropped in Korea in the near future, and agreed on policy to guide KOTESOL event organizers if there are changes.

If social distancing rules are dropped in Korea, KOTESOL event organizers will have the discretion to organize face-to-face events, provided all events have prior approval from venues, and events follow any extra restrictions or rules put in place by venues.

KOTESOL is seeking a new Publicity Chair.

The Publicity Chair is responsible for actively promoting and informing the public and KOTESOL membership about KOTESOL events, and may coordinate with the Publicity Committee to share these responsibilities. Promotion can include all forms of print and digital media. 2019 President's Award Conferred

The KOTESOL President's Award is KOTESOL's highest award for service to the organization. This year's award was announced and awarded at the Sunday plenary session of the 2019 Korea TESOL International Conference at Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul. Thomas Farrell Reflective Language Teacher Award Announced

Inaugurated this year by the namesake of the award is the Thomas Farrell Reflective Language Teacher Award. The recipient of the inaugural award was announced at the opening ceremony of the 2019 Korea TESOL International Conference by Dr. Thomas S.C. Farrell and KOTESOL President Dr. David E. Shaffer.

KOTESOL Revises Code of Conduct

KOTESOL approved its Code of Conduct for all KOTESOL-related matters, face-to-face and digital, earlier this year. At our recent National Council meeting on September 22, a slight revision was made of the third paragraph under the “At Face-to-Face Events” section of the Code.

Please familiarize yourself with the Code of Conduct as revised and keep it in mind at all times. It is effective immediately.

Let us always be considerate of others and their opinions, whether at KOTESOL events or elsewhere.

National Council Meeting

The next National Council meeting is scheduled for September 22 (Sunday) in Seoul at Sookmyung Women's University, Injae-gwan (Room 207).

The Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. and end by 4:00 p.m. Lunch is not provided.
